Total Defence Week 2015

Apr 07, 15 Total Defence Week 2015

The first and second week of February were two exciting weeks of school. My teachers told us it was Total Defence Week. It was going to be bigger than the previous years because Singapore would turn 50 years old this year and Frontier would be celebrating the SG 50 our way.

On Thursday, we were shocked when the emergency alarm rang and our Principal, Mr Koh’s voice, boomed over the PA system. He said,” This is a fire drill. Everyone, evacuate the school and assemble at the Assembly Point now. As quickly as we could, we scurried to the field and there we saw all our friends lined up. We moved very fast and we did not panic. That was because we knew what to do. The fire drill had been a part of the Total Defence Day emergency evacuation exercise and our Vice Principal, Mr Syamsul, praised us for having been quick in responding to the drill.

As part of learning more about Total Defence, our teachers told us to make a piggy bank out of recycled materials during our art lessons. It was to learn more about economic defence. There is going to be a competition to select the best piggy bank entries and all of us were so excited to have a chance to participate in it!

On 20 February, we commemorated Total Defence Day during Assembly. Our Principal read out the Total Defence Day message and our teachers taught us about the 5 defences of Singapore’s Total Defence. We even had a special speech by Dr Ivy Lim on why we should protect Singapore ourselves today. She even gave us a quiz and we did well. I think Dr Ivy was impressed with us. Then, we were treated to a special event – the launch of Frontier’s National Education Gallery. We watched it through a live feed and it was so exciting to see some of our teacher’s personal objects on display. My personal favourite was my teacher’s report card! If you want to know if he was a good student, you need to check this out!

During Social Studies lessons, it was interesting to learn about Singapore’s inventions and how Singapore’s economy has changed over our 50 years of existence since gaining independence. I loved our TDD commemoration.
